Certified Translator / Certified Interpreter: Have passed the national certification
process. They have successfully completed the certification exam set by the Canadian
Translators, Terminologists and Interpreter Council (CTTIC) or submitted a large body
of their work to an evaluation committee.
Associate Translator / Associate Interpreter: Translators with limited experience or
training that will complete the certification process in the future.
My name is Roula Salam, and I reside in Edmonton, Alberta. I currently teach English language and literature at the English Language School at the University of Alberta and I am an Arabic-English translator. I hold a PhD degree in English Literature from Queen’s University, Ontario. My area of doctoral specialization at Queen's was postcolonial studies. My native language being Arabic, I conducted extensive research and comparative studies between English translations and Arabic literary texts as part of my doctoral research.I have over ten years’ experience in the translation of different types of documents, from literary and academic to official and personal, and I am an active member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta since 2013. I also contribute to the professional development of translators and interpreters in my community of Alberta, providing workshops and training workshops both in Edmonton and Calgary.
