ATIA Webinar: “Word Choice”
September 12 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm MDT
Presented by Roula Salam
Finding le mot juste when translating a text from one language into the other doesn’t always come naturally. Translators may sometimes be immersed in murky waters when it comes to lexical choices and must feel their way around for the best word or phrase. Sometimes they may emerge with the perfect catch, while at others they may emerge with a word that sounds fishy or a phrase that fits in their sentence as well as a fish out of water. In this two-hour webinar, we will look at the decisions a translator must make when it comes to word choice, focusing on register, collocation, connotation, and cultural references.
